Marolo Grappa di Barolo 20 Years
Grappa di Barolo 20 Years stands at the summit of Marolo’s age-stated Barolo collection. Two decades of maturation transform the spirit without erasing its origin, producing a grappa of exceptional depth, darkness and composure.
Marolo has worked with the noble pomace of Piedmont since 1977, when Paolo Marolo founded the distillery in Alba. His philosophy helped establish grappa as a serious expression of grape and place, while his mastery of wood ageing became one of the defining signatures of the house.
Made from Nebbiolo pomace from Barolo, the grappa is distilled through a slow discontinuous bain-marie process and aged for 20 years in small oak and acacia barrels. This prolonged rest develops extraordinary aromatic complexity and a softer, more integrated texture, while the high strength preserves intensity and length.
In the glass, it shows an exceptionally deep amber colour. The nose unfolds through pepper, clove, nutmeg, tobacco, anise and liquorice, followed by fruit preserve, cooked apple, prune, raisin, almond and walnut. The wood and fruit are no longer separate elements, but part of a single mature and harmonious profile.
The palate is full, smooth and deeply persistent, with moderate sweetness, warming spice and layers of dried and preserved fruit. The finish is expansive and unhurried, leaving tobacco, liquorice, nuts and dark fruit.
This is Marolo at its most complete: a prestige grappa shaped by Nebbiolo, twenty years of patience and one of Piedmont’s most respected traditions of artisanal distillation.
