Foradori Twelve bottle collection: a study of Trentino
This twelve-pack is a comprehensive collection of Agricola Foradori, one of the defining estates of contemporary northern Italian wine. More than a mixed case, it is a comparative study of grape variety, vineyard, vessel and vintage, bringing together the estate’s key wines across the 2022, 2023 and 2024 releases.
At the centre of the collection is Teroldego, the native red grape most closely associated with Campo Rotaliano and with the modern history of Foradori. Two bottles of Foradori Teroldego 2024 provide the foundation of the case. Dark-fruited, floral and savoury, with mountain freshness and fine structure, it is the clearest introduction to the estate’s style and the essential starting point for understanding both the grape and its landscape.
Granato 2022 and Granato 2023 represent the historic and most prestigious expression of Teroldego at the estate. First produced in 1986, Granato was the wine that demonstrated the variety’s potential for depth, complexity and long-term ageing. Produced from old pergola-trained vines in Campo Rotaliano and matured in tonneaux, it combines dark fruit, spice, firm structure and cellar-worthy seriousness.
The presence of two vintages makes this more than an introduction to Granato. It offers an opportunity to examine how one of Trentino’s benchmark red wines changes across successive growing seasons while retaining its distinctive identity.
The single-vineyard wines, Morei 2023 and 2024 and Sgarzon 2023 and 2024, explore the relationship between Teroldego, individual sites and clay amphorae. Both wines are fermented and matured on their skins in Spanish tinajas, allowing slow evolution without the flavour imprint of oak.
Morei is generally the darker, broader and more grounded expression. Its pebbly alluvial soils produce a wine with black fruit, earthy depth and a dense mineral core. Sgarzon is cooler, more lifted and more vertical, showing redder fruit, aromatic spice, freshness and greater tension. Comparing the two vineyards across two vintages reveals both their consistent identities and the subtle differences created by each season.
The four white wines complete the picture. Fontanasanta Nosiola 2023 and 2024 revive one of Trentino’s historic white varieties through extended skin contact in tinajas. These are textural and contemplative wines built around citrus, alpine herbs, fine tannins and persistent minerality.
Fuoripista Pinot Grigio 2023 and 2024 take the variety far beyond its familiar commercial expression. More than eight months of skin contact in tinajas restore colour, grip and structural depth, producing wines that sit between white, amber and light red in character. They combine orchard fruit, dried flowers, spice and gentle tannin with the freshness needed to keep the wines precise.
Together, these twelve bottles offer a complete examination of Foradori’s work: two bottles of the essential Teroldego 2024, two releases of the iconic Granato, two vintages from each of the Morei and Sgarzon vineyards, and parallel expressions of the skin-contact whites Fontanasanta Nosiola and Fuoripista Pinot Grigio.
This is a case for anyone wanting to understand Foradori beyond a single bottle, and Trentino as a region, to its extent. It is a study of Teroldego, but also of vintage variation, old vines, native varieties, biodynamic farming, individual vineyards, clay amphorae and mountain freshness.
