2024 Occhipinti 'SP68' Terre Siciliane Rosso
SP68 takes its name from the road that runs past Arianna Occhipinti’s vineyards near Vittoria. It is the most immediate red in the range and one of the clearest introductions to her style: bright fruit, low extraction, freshness and the natural fragrance of Frappato supported by the darker structure of Nero d’Avola.
The 2024 is a blend of 70% Frappato and 30% Nero d’Avola, grown at around 280 metres above sea level on calcareous, sandy soils. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically and are certified organic, with no chemical intervention.
Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, followed by 15 days of maceration on the skins. The wine then ages for 6 months in concrete tanks and a further month in bottle, with no filtration.
Red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry lead the nose, followed by violet, dried herbs, black pepper and a light earthy note. The palate is juicy and energetic, with fine tannins, bright acidity and a savoury finish that keeps the wine light on its feet.
100% Organic & Biodynamic.
SP68 is designed for early drinking, but it isn't a simple wine. Frappato gives perfume and lift, while Nero d’Avola adds enough depth and grip to make it work well at the table.
Roast chicken, pork cutlets and other light preparations, tomato-based or mushroom pasta or semi-aged cheeses.
Serve: 12–14 °C; a light chill works well.
Drink: 2026–2030
