2024 Foradori 'Sgarzon' Teroldego MAGNUM

'Sgarzon' is one of the wines that reveals how far Foradori has taken Teroldego. It is not simply a more limited version of the estate wine, but a single-vineyard study of place, climate and vessel.

The name Sgarzon means “shoot” in the dialect of Campo Rotaliano. The vineyard is cooler than Morei, and its vines are particularly active, producing a Teroldego with unusual freshness, energy and aromatic lift. The soils are alluvial and mostly sandy, giving the wine a more agile and vertical expression.

The key to Sgarzon is the use of tinajas from Villarrobledo in Spain. These are large clay amphorae, and Foradori uses them not as a stylistic ornament, but as a way to let the grape and vineyard speak with less outside interference. Sgarzon ferments and remains on the skins in amphora for 8 months.

This long skin contact builds structure, tannin and savoury depth, but the clay does not behave like oak. It gives shape without adding flavour. There is no vanilla, toast or sweetness. Instead, the tinaja allows slow oxygen exchange and a close relationship between wine, skins and lees, preserving freshness while intensifying texture.

In the glass, the 2024 shows a luminous ruby colour. The nose is lifted and precise, with wild raspberry, sour cherry, blackberry, violet, dried herbs, pepper and a cool mineral note. On the palate, it is fresh, tense and finely grained, with vivid acidity, delicate tannins and a long, saline finish.

Sgarzon is the more vertical and nervous of the two amphora Teroldego vineyards. It is less about darkness and density, more about energy, spice, perfume and mountain freshness.

Presented in Magnum, this larger format offers slower, more graceful ageing, preserving freshness while allowing the wine to develop greater complexity and depth.
