2024 Foradori 'Fontanasanta' Manzoni Bianco
Fontanasanta lies in the hills above Trento, where waterways, biodiversity and calcareous clay soils create a cooler and more sheltered environment for white grapes. Here, Manzoni Bianco produces a wine that combines Alpine freshness with depth, texture and a remarkable capacity to evolve.
Manzoni Bianco is a cultivated crossing created by Professor Luigi Manzoni during the early twentieth century. Its naturally firm acidity, substantial skins and ability to retain flavour through a long growing season make it particularly well suited to the elevated, clay-rich vineyards of Fontanasanta.
The grapes ferment on their skins in cement tanks, extracting texture and gentle phenolic structure without turning the wine into a deeply amber or heavily macerated style. It then matures for 7 months in acacia casks. Acacia is less aromatically assertive than conventional oak, allowing the wine to gain breadth and stability while keeping its floral and mineral character clear.
Unlike Fontanasanta Nosiola, this is not a tinaja wine. Its identity comes from the contrast between skin fermentation in cement and maturation in acacia: precision and freshness on one side, softness and depth on the other.
In the glass, it shows a luminous straw-gold colour. The nose opens with ripe apple, white peach, lemon peel and mountain flowers, followed by beeswax, dried herbs and a subtle mineral note. The palate is energetic but substantial, with bright acidity, fine phenolic grip and a long, saline finish.
Manzoni Bianco is initially compact and reserved. With bottle age, its citrus and floral tones become more layered, developing notes of honey, dried flowers and stone without losing freshness.
