2024 Elio Altare Langhe Nebbiolo
Elio Altare changed the conversation around Barolo. From his family estate in La Morra, he became one of the key figures of the modernist movement in the Langhe, challenging the heavier, more rigid traditions of the past and pursuing wines built on clarity, fruit purity, shorter macerations and refined use of French oak.
This Langhe Nebbiolo carries that same philosophy in a more immediate frame. It is not made to imitate Barolo, but to show Nebbiolo with Altare’s signature precision: fragrant, polished, energetic and accessible in its youth while still retaining the grape’s natural structure and savoury depth.
Made from 100% Nebbiolo, the fruit comes from La Morra and Monforte, including vines between 20 and 50 years old planted on calcareous and sandy soils. The wine undergoes a short maceration on the skins in temperature-controlled rotary fermenters, followed by 5 months in used French barrique. This approach keeps the tannins fine and the fruit expressive, without stripping Nebbiolo of its identity.
In the glass, it shows an intense ruby colour. The nose is fresh and lifted, with rose petal, red cherry, raspberry, redcurrant, subtle spice and a gentle earthy note. On the palate, it is bright and finely structured, with red-fruited energy, good acidity and tannins that are present but not dry.
A clear and elegant expression of Langhe Nebbiolo, shaped by the same intelligence that made Altare one of the defining names of modern Piedmont. It offers the perfume and tension of Nebbiolo in a style that is ready to enjoy earlier, without losing seriousness or regional character.
Perfect with more delicate meats preparations like roast duck or herb-roasted chicken, pork loin with sage, mushroom risotto, or aged cheeses.
