2024 Ca’ Rugate 'San Michele' Soave Classico
San Michele is Ca’ Rugate’s classic expression of Soave Classico, crafted from 100% Garganega grown in Monteforte d’Alpone, one of the historic centres of the denomination. Where Monte Alto represents the estate’s more structured and age-worthy side, San Michele focuses on clarity, freshness and the immediate charm of Garganega grown on volcanic hillsides.
The vineyards sit on clay and basalt soils, which help give the wine its mineral line and gentle savoury edge. The grapes are harvested at the end of September, then fermented in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature for 8–12 days. There is no oak influence here: the aim is to preserve the grape’s natural fragrance, crisp fruit and classic almond finish.
In the glass, it shows a bright straw-yellow colour. The nose is fine and delicate, with white flowers, chamomile, peach, yellow apple, citrus peel and a subtle almond note. On the palate, it is dry, fresh and balanced, with round fruit, clean acidity and a long bright finish.
Oysters, grilled prawns with lemon, roast snapper, grilled vegetables.
If you like light wines with great acidity and freshness, this is one to love.
