2023 Standish 'Lamella' Shiraz

Lamella is the most lifted and finely etched expression in the Standish line-up, drawn from old Shiraz vines rooted in the historic Stonegarden vineyard. It carries the unmistakable density of old-vine South Australian Shiraz, but with a cooler, more aromatic register: perfume, precision, and mineral tension shaping the wine as much as fruit concentration.

In the glass, it shows a deep, vivid ruby-purple colour. The nose is intensely expressive, with dark plum, black cherry, raspberry, violet, rose, sage, sandalwood, licorice, orange peel, and finely ground spice. With air, the wine becomes more complex and expansive, showing a stony, almost granitic edge beneath the fruit.

On the palate, Lamella is plush but controlled, with layered dark fruit, silky tannins, bright natural acidity, and a long, cool-toned finish. It has the power expected from Standish, but its beauty lies in lift and detail rather than sheer weight.

This is the most perfumed and graceful of the four Standish wines — a Shiraz of old-vine depth, aromatic lift, and quiet force.

Perfect with duck, lamb, roast pork, mushroom dishes, charcuterie, and spiced Middle Eastern-style meat dishes.
