2023 Oltretorrente Colli Tortonesi Bianco
Oltretorrente’s Bianco comes from the hills of Paderna, in the Colli Tortonesi, where old mixed vineyards carry the memory of traditional Piedmontese field planting. The wine brings together Cortese and Favorita in equal parts, with smaller amounts of Timorasso, Moscato, and other local white varieties planted within the same estate vineyards.
The vines average around 50 years of age and grow on calcareous-clay and calcareous-limestone soils, with both northern and southern exposures contributing freshness, ripeness, and balance. In the cellar, the grapes are pressed as whole bunches without destemming, preserving minerality and brightness. Oltretorrente’s broader approach focuses on spontaneous fermentations, ageing on total lees, and the use of concrete to preserve texture, stability, and a clear expression of vineyard and vintage.
In the glass, it shows a bright straw-yellow colour. The nose is fresh and gently aromatic, with notes of citrus, white peach, pear, wild flowers, and a subtle almond-like edge. On the palate, it is dry, textured, and mineral, with lively acidity, delicate fruit, and a clean, savoury finish shaped by old vines and limestone soils.
A Piedmontese white of quiet complexity — not built on obvious aromatics, but on freshness, texture, and the layered character of old mixed vineyards.
Perfect with freshwater steamed fish, light seafood dishes, vegetable antipasti, soft cheeses, and the simpler repertoire of Piedmontese cuisine.
