RS is short for Rosso Saša, Radikon’s red wine project named after Saša Radikon and produced in Oslavia, on the Friulian-Slovenian border. Better known for its long-macerated whites, Radikon brings the same uncompromising, low-intervention philosophy to this red: a wine of energy, grip, and raw territorial character rather than polish alone.

Made from 75% Merlot and 25% Pignolo, the grapes come from organically farmed vineyards on ponca soils — the layered marl and sandstone typical of this part of Friuli. The wine undergoes 8–14 days of maceration on the skins, followed by 1 year of ageing in oak barrels and at least 4 months in bottle before release. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered, with minimal sulphur.

In the glass, it shows a deep ruby colour with violet reflections. The nose is intense and slightly wild, with dark cherry, blackberry, wild berries, sweet spice, herbs, coffee, and earthy notes. On the palate, it is juicy and structured, with fresh acidity, firm tannins, and a savoury, energetic finish that gives the wine both power and lift.

This is a serious natural red from one of Friuli’s cult producers — not a soft Merlot, but a darker, more gripping expression shaped by Pignolo, ponca soils, and Radikon’s unmistakable signature.

Perfect with braised meats, grilled beef, lamb, mushroom dishes, aged cheeses, and richer autumnal cooking.
