2020 La Stoppa 'Ageno' Emilia Bianco
Ageno is the only white wine from La Stoppa, named after the estate’s founder and conceived as a deep, macerated expression of Malvasia from a warm, low-yielding terroir. It is an Emilian skin-contact white, built on time, extraction, and a strong sense of place.
The wine undergoes an extended maceration of around 4 months on the skins, which brings out Malvasia's distinctive aromaticity; followed by spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. It is then aged in large wooden vats and further refined in bottle, without filtration or added sulphur, preserving its raw and unaltered character.
In the glass, it shows a deep amber-orange hue. The nose is intense and complex, with aromas of dried apricot, orange peel, honey, herbs, and tea-like notes, layered with oxidative and earthy nuances. On the palate, it is structured and tannic for a white wine, with grip, warmth, and a long, savoury, slightly oxidative finish.
