2020 I Fabbri Chianti Classico Riserva
From the high hills of Lamole, Susanna Grassi continues delivering great wines: from 100% Sangiovese Grosso sourced from old vines from the smallest UGA in Chianti, one where altitude enhances freshness, structure, and aromatic precision. Aged for 12 months in 500 liters French oak barrels, it combines varietal purity with a refined and integrated oak influence.
Lamole’s terraced vineyards are central to the identity of I Fabbri. These steep, stone-walled slopes sit high above Greve in Chianti, where altitude, exposure and excellent drainage help Sangiovese ripen slowly while retaining brightness and perfume. The terraces are not only part of the landscape’s history; they shape the wine directly, limiting vigour, protecting balance and giving the fruit its lifted, fine-boned character.
Clonal material also matters here. Sangiovese is not a single uniform expression, and Lamole has long been associated with its own high-altitude selections and biotypes. In these old vineyards, Sangiovese Grosso brings small-berry concentration, firm skins, natural acidity and the savoury, floral detail that distinguishes the best wines of the area. For I Fabbri, the work is not simply about growing Sangiovese, but preserving the particular voice of Sangiovese from Lamole.
In the glass, it shows an intense ruby red color. The nose is broad and persistent, with classic notes of red fruits, delicate floral nuances, and subtle hints of oak. On the palate, it is harmonious and structured, with depth and balance, where fruit and oak integrate seamlessly into a long, elegant finish.
