2020 Hilberg Pasquero 'Sulla Stella' Barbera d'Alba Superiore

Sulla Stella comes from Colle della Stella in Priocca, a sunny, open hillside overlooking the Tanaro Valley and facing Barbaresco. The white clay and limestone soils give this Barbera both power and freshness, while the constant ventilation of the site supports slow ripening and a naturally balanced expression of the grape.

Made from 100% Barbera, the wine is produced through spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Each micro-parcel is vinified separately, with submerged cap fermentation in concrete for some lots and gentle punch-downs in stainless steel for others. The wine then matures for 2 years in wood and concrete, gaining depth, texture and mineral definition.

In the glass, it shows an intense ruby red colour. The nose is lively and expressive, with cherry, red plum, brambly berries, wild herbs, sweet spice and a subtle earthy note. On the palate, it is crisp, vibrant and full of energy, with Barbera’s natural acidity balancing the wine’s power and giving lift to its juicy fruit and savoury structure.

Perfect with polenta and spezzatino, braised meats, anchovies in green sauce, roasted vegetables, mushroom dishes and aged cheeses.
