2020 Frank Cornelissen 'Munjebel MC'
Perched on steep, terraced slopes facing Mount Etna, 'MC' Contrada Monte Colla is one of the most striking and exposed sites in Cornelissen’s holdings. Planted with old-vine Nerello Mascalese dating back to 1946, at elevations between 750 and 780 meters, this vineyard benefits from abundant sunlight and constant airflow. The sandy clay soils and extreme conditions give rise to a wine of depth and power, often considered Cornelissen’s “Hermitage” of Etna for its richness and structure.
In the glass, it shows a luminous ruby red with garnet reflections. The nose is deep and expressive, with layers of ripe red fruits, dried herbs, and floral notes, gradually unfolding into hints of spice, earth, and a subtle smoky character.
On the palate, the wine is ripe and and structured with the power and density. The texture is round and glossy with the tannins framing the structure. The finish is unfolds with mineral tension, and savory nuances which lasts for an extraordinary amount of time.
100% Organic.
Ideal with steaks, slow-cooked meats or richly flavored dishes, this wine stands as one of the most powerful yet refined expressions of Etna.
