Munjebel Rosso FM from Contrada Feudo di Mezzo (Sottana) offers a distinct and refined expression of Nerello Mascalese from the northern valley of Etna. Sourced from the lower section of this expansive contrada near Passopisciaro, at around 580 meters, the site combines relatively deep soils with excellent ventilation, allowing for consistent ripening while preserving freshness. With vines averaging over 40 years of age, Cornelissen’s minimal-intervention approach (indigenous fermentations, extended skin contact, and aging in neutral vessels) highlights the natural elegance of this cru.

In the glass, it shows a bright ruby red color with subtle garnet hues. The nose is expressive yet composed, with notes of fresh red berries, delicate floral tones, and a gentle earthy complexity, gradually opening to reveal hints of spice and soft mineral nuances.

On the palate, the wine reveals its defining character: graceful, rounded, and finely balanced, with a softer, more Burgundian profile compared to other Etna crus. The texture is supple and flowing, with refined tannins and a sense of harmony that carries through a long, elegant finish. Even in warmer vintages, this site retains a natural finesse, offering both immediacy and depth.

Ideal with poultry, pork, or lightly spiced dishes, this wine captures a more delicate and nuanced side of Etna. A study in balance, elegance, and quiet complexity.
