2020 Frank Cornelissen 'Munjebel CR'
Munjebel Rosso 'CR' - Contrada Campo Re is a singular expression of Nerello Mascalese from one of the most distinctive sites on the northern slopes of Mount Etna. Sourced from a partly ungrafted vineyard at around 730–735 meters near the village of Randazzo, this cru is defined by deeper soils and a cooler site often yielding wines of great strcuture and longevity. Vines averaging over 70 years of age, Cornelissen’s minimal-intervention philosophy: long maceration, indigenous fermentation, and aging in neutral vessels; seeks to preserve the identity of the site.
In the glass, it shows a luminous ruby red with garnet reflections. The nose is lifted and complex, with notes of wild red berries and rose petals which gradually evolving into hints of spice, dried herbs, and a faint smoky edge.
On the palate, this is where Campo Re distinguishes itself: structured, firm, and deeply expressive, with a more masculine profile compared to other Etna crus. The texture is dense with a fine web fine firm tannins and a core of mineral-driven freshness that carries through a long finish. There is a sense of depth and serious character suggesting a wine that rewards patience and careful evolution in the glass.
100% Organic.
Ideal with game, slow-cooked meats, or earthy dishes with mushrooms and herbs, this wine offers a profound and distinctive interpretation of Etna’s terroir: less immediate and built for those who appreciate structure, tension, and longevity.
