2019 Occhipinti 'Grotte Alte' Cerasuolo di Vittoria

Rising from the limestone ridges of Vittoria, Grotte Alte is a wine shaped by wind, sun, and stone — a deep Mediterranean red that carries both the warmth of the sea and the altitude of the Iblei Mountains. It is Arianna Occhipinti’s most structured expression of Cerasuolo di Vittoria, blending 50% Nero d’Avola and 50% Frappato di Vittoria into a single, unified voice of place.

Crafted with a biodynamic, low-intervention philosophy, the wine ferments with indigenous yeasts and undergoes extended maceration before ageing for 48 months in large 50 hl French oak barrels, followed by bottle refinement. Other than technique alone, time is the key element that defines this wine's final shape.

In the glass, it shows a bright, vivid ruby red. The nose is layered and refined, with aromas of sour cherry, ripe plum, dried rose, and Mediterranean herbs, underpinned by earthy and saline mineral notes. On the palate, it is structured yet graceful, with fine tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, savoury finish marked by limestone tension and coastal freshness.

Perfect with roasted lamb, game, rich pasta dishes, and aged cheeses, or just by itself: a great Cerasuolo di Vittoria from a star producer.
