2017 Domaine Laurent Père et Fils Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Damodes

Aux Damodes sits at the northern edge of Nuits-Saint-Georges, directly below the slope of Vosne-Romanée. This position is important. While the southern premiers crus of Nuits are often associated with greater firmness and muscularity, Damodes tends to show a more perfumed, finely textured and Vosne-like expression of the village.

Domaine Laurent Père et Fils represents the estate-grown side of Dominique Laurent’s work in Burgundy. Laurent built his reputation through small-volume élevage and an intense focus on the relationship between old-vine fruit, individual climats and carefully selected oak.

The shallow limestone-rich soils and easterly exposure of Aux Damodes favour fragrance and precision. The 2017 vintage was generous and even, producing Pinot Noir with clear fruit, supple texture and enough freshness to preserve definition.

Red cherry, wild strawberry and black raspberry open the wine, followed by violet, clove, sandalwood and a light earthy note. The palate is medium-bodied and polished, with fine tannins, bright acidity and a savoury mineral line beneath the ripe red fruit. The finish is persistent, with spice, liquorice and a restrained forest character.

Roast duck, beef fillet, mushroom risotto or pasta, truffle dishes, aged cheeses.
