2017 Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru
Domaine Drouhin-Laroze holds 1.5 hectares of Bonnes-Mares entirely on the Chambolle-Musigny side of the appellation. The parcel sits on shallow, iron-rich red clay over limestone, giving the wine both the depth of the grand cru and the aromatic refinement associated with Chambolle.
The 2017 was made with 25% whole bunches and matured in oak barrels with 80% new wood. The domaine uses barrels made from Allier and Nivernais oak, favouring light to medium-plus toast to integrate the wood with the wine’s naturally powerful fruit and tannin.
Ripe red cherry, blackberry and boysenberry lead into violet, rose, liquorice and sweet spice. The palate is dense but not heavy, with pure fruit framed by fresh acidity and finely textured, persistent tannins. A savoury oak note gives breadth, while the finish remains taut, energetic and mineral.
This wine combines the generosity of the vintage with the coiled power of Bonnes-Mares. It is already expressive after extended aeration, but its balance, depth and tannic structure point toward a long evolution in bottle.
Roast duck, beef fillet with or without sauces, mushroom risotto or pasta, truffle dishes, aged cheeses.
