2025 Ochota Barrels 'Weird Berries in the Woods' Gewürztraminer
'Weird Berries in the Woods' is Ochota Barrels’ off-centre take on Gewürztraminer: aromatic, but not heavy; perfumed, but not sweet; expressive, but still dry and energetic. The 2025 comes from a single vineyard in the Adelaide Hills, picked earlier than the previous vintage and pressed directly to seasoned French oak with full solids. This year, full malolactic fermentation adds a softer, more generous shape while keeping the wine bright and nervy.
In the glass, it shows a pale golden colour with green reflexes. The nose is lifted and unusual, with lychee, tangelo blossom, lavender, Meyer lemon, ginger, jasmine, and manuka honey. On the palate, it is bone dry, textural, and chalky, with mandarin-skin grip, floral aromatics, and a crisp, long finish.
This is Gewürztraminer stripped of excess — fragrant, dry, lightly wild, and built around texture rather than sweetness.
Perfect with spicy Asian dishes, pork, charcuterie, soft cheeses, aromatic salads, and anything with ginger, lemongrass, or citrus.
