2023 Radikon 'RS23'
RS, short for Rosso Saša, is Radikon’s red interpretation within the Saša line, produced in Oslavia from Merlot and Pignolo. It carries the estate’s unmistakable signature: organic farming, spontaneous fermentation, no temperature control, no filtration, and a deeply textural approach to red wine. The blend includes 75% Merlot and 25% Pignolo, with 8 to 14 days of maceration, ageing for one year in large botti, and only a tiny amount of sulphur at bottling.
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby colour with violet tones. The nose is dark and expressive, with black cherry, plum, wild berries, herbs, spice, earth, and a subtle coffee-like edge. On the palate, it is energetic and savoury, with Merlot bringing flesh and dark fruit while Pignolo adds grip, structure, and a distinctly Friulian bitterness.
The opposite of a soft Merlot-based red. It is Radikon in red form: firm, vital, slightly wild, and built for the table, with enough depth and tension to stand alongside serious meat, mushrooms, and aged cheeses.
Perfect with grilled beef, lamb, pork, mushrooms, roasted vegetables, aged cheeses, and richer autumnal cooking.
