“Mozzatta” comes from a single vineyard planted in 1960 on light clay with calcareous sediments, offering a more lifted and finely structured expression of Cesanese d’Affile. Produced biodynamically and vinified with a hands-off approach, fermentation takes place spontaneously in concrete with extended maceration, followed by aging in stainless steel and significant time in bottle to refine the wine’s natural energy.

In the glass, it shows a bright ruby red. The nose is precise and slightly more elevated in tone, with red cherry, wild berries, floral hints, and a subtle mineral edge. On the palate, it is fresh and focused, with fine tannins, vibrant acidity, and a more linear, elegant profile compared to broader expressions of Cesanese. The finish is clean, persistent, and quietly savoury.

Cesanese del Piglio is one of the handful DOCGs of Lazio. Easily overlooked among Italy’s many appellations, yet one that deserves to be experienced at least once.

Ideal with grilled meats, herb-driven dishes, or aged cheeses, where its structure and freshness can bring balance and definition.
