Set among the rolling hills of the Colli Piacentini, where clay-rich soils and traditional vineyards define the landscape, Macchiona takes its name from an old farmhouse surrounded by some of the estate’s most historic red plantings. It is a wine deeply rooted in place, reflecting the raw, agricultural character of this part of Emilia.

A blend of 50% Barbera and 50% Bonarda, Macchiona is produced from organically farmed vineyards with vines ranging from 15 to 40 years of age. The wine undergoes a maceration of around 40 days on the skins, followed by spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. It is then aged in a combination of large Slavonian oak casks and wooden vats, before further refinement in bottle, with no filtration or added sulphur.

In the glass, it shows a deep, opaque ruby red. The nose is intense and rustic, with aromas of dark cherry, blackberry, dried plum, and earthy notes, layered with hints of spice and undergrowth. On the palate, it is powerful and structured, with firm tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, slightly wild, savoury finish that reflects both variety and terroir.

A traditional, uncompromising expression of Barbera and Bonarda, combining depth, energy, and a distinctly rural character.

Perfect with rich meat dishes, slow-cooked stews, game, and aged cheeses.
