2014 Radikon 'Pignoli' 500ml
Pignoli is Radikon’s rare red from Pignolo, one of Friuli’s most structured and age-worthy native varieties. Produced in Oslavia, on the Friulian-Slovenian border, this sits among the estate’s most serious red wines: long, firm, savoury, and built around time rather than immediacy.
The 2014 spends around one month on the skins, followed by 5 years in used barrels and a minimum of 6 years in bottle before release. That long ageing is essential to soften Pignolo’s naturally firm tannic structure and bring out the wine’s darker, more evolved complexity.
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby colour moving toward garnet. The nose is mature and brooding, with dark cherry, dried plum, leather, wild herbs, tobacco, earth, balsamic tones, and subtle spice. On the palate, it is structured and savoury, with firm but evolved tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, dark, earthy finish.
This is not a soft or polished red. It is Radikon through Pignolo: austere, mature, textural, and deeply gastronomic, with the 500ml format making it feel even more concentrated and deliberate.
Perfect with game, braised meats, aged cheeses, mushrooms, slow-cooked beef, lamb, and rich winter dishes.
