2021 Elio Altare Barolo
Elio Altare’s Barolo 2021 is a modern yet deeply expressive interpretation of Nebbiolo, sourced from vineyards across La Morra, Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d’Alba, and Barolo. Vines aged 20–30 years, with southern exposures, ensure optimal ripening and concentration. Fermentation in rotary fermenters with short maceration preserves aromatic purity, while 24 months in French barriques bring refinement and balance to the wine while contributing to having a Barolo that is ready to the enjoy even when young.
In the glass, it shows a very intense ruby red color with garnet reflections. The nose is fresh and layered, opening with small red fruits such as raspberry and redcurrant, alongside delicate wild rose notes. With time, it evolves into more complex hints of licorice and spice. On the palate, it is warm and elegant, with a smooth texture, integrated tannins, and a long, persistent finish.
Ideal with braised meats, game, truffle dishes, or aged cheeses, this Barolo combines approachability with depth, offering a refined and contemporary expression of one of Italy’s most iconic and acclaimed wines.
