2020 La Visciola 'Vignali' Cesanese del Piglio
“Vignali” comes from a small half hectare vineyard planted in 1960 on red clay soils at moderate elevation, offering a grounded and direct expression of Cesanese. Farmed biodynamically and vinified with minimal intervention, fermentation takes place spontaneously in concrete with extended maceration and no temperature control, followed by aging in the same vessel to preserve purity and texture.
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby red. The nose is open and earthy, with notes of red cherry, dried herbs, and a subtle ferrous, mineral edge. On the palate, it is structured yet fluid, with fine-grained tannins, balanced acidity, and a savoury core that reflects the clay-rich soils. The finish is persistent, slightly rustic, and true to the grape’s character. Raw, unfiltered, focused on texture and authenticity. A wine of character, and a bit nostalgic, if you will.
Ideal with any roman classic, roasted meats, Coda alla Vaccinara and other traditional dishes from its area, where its structure and savoury profile find natural balance.
